PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION

We are a non-profit organization whose mission is to teach girls ages 16-20 valuable skills they will use for the rest of their lives while providing college scholarships to help further their education. We teach and then practice interview, presentation, speaking and professional dressing skills.

HISTORY

The Miss Kosciusko County Pageant, independently produced by the Kosciusko County Community Fair, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Since 1994, we have been a scholarship pageant giving away more than $30,000 in college scholarships to young women from Kosciusko County ages 16-20. The scholarships awarded have been made possible by the generous donations of area businesses and individuals.

Our pageant is not a beauty pageant. There is no swimsuit or talent competition. Nor is there an entry fee or sponsorship required.  We are a scholarship pageant with 50 percent of the contestants' scores based upon an interview with a panel of three judges where the contestants are judged on their ability to converse, personality and poise.

However, our pageant has not always been a scholarship pageant. Prior to 1987, the Kosciusko County Fair Queen was selected based on a penny-a-vote system. The contestant that collected the most money was crowned queen.
